When the ADD or EDIT links are activated, the Exception Rule editor is opened with the 'General' page displayed. The General Information for an Exception Rule is merely a name and description applied to the rule. Other 'Exception Rule' components are added in dialogs selected from the Drop-down box (highlighted yellow).
Exceptions - General Settings dialog
This value represents the name of the rule being created and will appear on the Exceptions Setting page with all other rules.
This is a text value describing the Exception Rule being created.
In this example the Exception Rule will be given the name of "Chuck B" and described as "Open surf time for Chuck Brown"...
The General information page for an exception rule is accessed from the Add or Edit links on Content Filter Exceptions table.
Enter "Chuck B" in the Name field then enter "Open surf time for Chuck Brown" in the Description field.
From the Drop-down list (highlighted yellow in the example above), select the "Users" option to proceed to the dialog to define the User, Group or IP Address(es) that will be controlled by this Exception rule.
Do Not click on <Apply Changes> until all of the desired components of the rule have been configured. When you click on the <Apply Changes> button, your entries - up to this point - are saved and added to the Exceptions table. If you had not completed entering all the desired data for the exception, you will need to reopen it using the EDIT link to complete its configuration.
If you close the rule configuration process prematurely [X], or click on the 'Back to all Exceptions' link, your entries will be reset.
