Firewall Object - Overview |
The Firewall Object contains an advanced packet-inspection engine that controls inter-network traffic using easily defined security policies. Network sessions can be permitted, rejected, or "silently" dropped based on such factors as protocol, internal or external network and/or host addressing, traffic direction or a number of other traffic identifying parameters.
The Object can be implemented using predefined security policies or can be configured with advanced security policies defined through interactive configuration dialogs. The Firewall Object configuration properties are only accessible through the MMC based Admin Console and the graphic configuration properties dialogs.HTTP, SMTP, and FTP proxy support serves to isolate specific protocol commands and traffic.
With the Firewall Object employed internal machines automatically inherit an added level of protection from many common security intrusions. Since many operating systems are vulnerable to security breaches and older operating systems simply do not have the necessary service support to effectively guard against unauthorized access, the Firewall Object can be used to shield those resources from various external exploits.
